In order to receive an Erasmus+ grant (Erasmus+ scholarship) for your study abroad, it is mandatory to take an OLS language test before your Erasmus experience starts. Each test takes about 15 min. to fill in. The results are kept confidential and will not be used. It is a guide for you to know your language proficiency.
This language test can be taken via the Online Language Support (OLS). Click here to get started. It only takes a few seconds to create a profile and start your language journey. Click here to see how to create an account/profile.
When your account/profile has been created, you can start doing the OLS language test: Search for '(the language of your study/traineeship) placement test' (e.g. 'English placement test') and do the test. Upload a print screen of your test result via this google form. TAKE CARE: the language must be the same as the one mentioned in your LA and your grant agreement.
Furthermore, OLS provides a range of interactive and engaging activities to help you learn a new language or improve your language skills. And good news... you can work on your own schedule! You will be able to enjoy a unique language experience at your own pace. Online language courses are offered for free upon registration on the OLS website. You can choose an unlimited amount of language courses. Following these courses is not mandatory. Only the test is mandatory.
If you want to follow another language course in preparation for your study abroad, Hasselt University offers a one-time (partial) reimbursement of max. € 100 for external language courses. Via this link you can apply for the reimbursement.
Via Erasmus@uhasselt.be you will receive your grant agreement. Complete and sign the grant agreement, and email it back via erasmus@uhasselt.be.
TAKE CARE! It is important that ...
(1) the status of your exchange mentions 'meet all the prerequisites' (= voldoet aan de voorwaarden) (This status can be found in the 'Exchange portal' - top right)
(2) that you re-enroll @UHasselt
IMPORTANT TIPS:
Check the account number on the grant agreement. The Erasmus+ scholarship will be paid on the account number linked to your student file. Do not change the account number on the grant agreement. Change it via your student file or contact 'studentenadministratie@uhasselt.be'. Let us know that the account number change has been requested via erasmus@uhasselt.be.
Check the dates on your grant agreement. The dates of your traineeship abroad appear in your student file (exchange portal). If these dates are missing or if they are not correct, please ask for a change request via this link. Send a WhatsApp to Laurien Stuvers (0032472707492) if this request is urgent.
Start date = the day that you have to be at the host institution for academic reasons (classes, language course, an orientation day,…)
End date = the last day you have to be present at the host institution for academic reasons (exams, classes,…)
If you have to stay longer than mentioned in your grant agreement, you MUST ask for an extension of your stay at least 1,5 months before the official end of your study. You can do this via this link. The grant will be recalculated (provided that you apply on time and the budget allows it). Your prolonged stay will also be registered for insurance reasons.
The grant will be paid in 2 instalments:
70% before your stay
30% after your return
... an amount per month depending on your destination and whether or not you are a student with 'fewer opportunities'.
... a fixed travel allowance based on the distance as the crow flies (in a straight line) between the UHasselt campus and your host institution/company; and whether or not you travel sustainably (Green Travel). We use the European Commission's distance calculator to calculate the distance band. For distances under 500 km, you must use a sustainable means of transport.

* 'Fewer opportunities': You have the UHasselt status of "beursstudent", "bijna-beursstudent", student with a working student status or student with a disability status.
The travel allowance is based on the distance between the UHasselt campus and the host institution/company. You can use the distance calculator to calculate your travel allowance. If you travel to and from your host institution/company sustainably and collectively (route home - host city), your travel allowance is higher (see below). Examples of sustainable and collective transport are travelling by bus, train, and carpooling with fellow students,... Using an electric car only qualifies as sustainable travel if you carpool with fellow students. If your host institution/company is less than 500 km from the UHasselt campus, you are expected to travel sustainably. Erasmus+ and UHasselt also encourage green travel for longer journeys.
