More About ABA & ASD

Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) is the process of systematically applying interventions based upon the principles of learning theory to improve socially significant behaviors.

(Adapted from Baer, Wolf & Risley 1968)

ABA strategies are most commonly used with individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) however, the strategies and approaches are useful and effective for all.

If you have access to a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA) or are being supported by a Registered Behaviour Technician (RBT), it is important to seek their support.

That being said, services and supports provided by a BCBA can be costly, wait times can be excessive, and access to funding can be limited. Currently, government funding for ABA intervention is only available for those with a diagnosed ASD, however there is extensive evidence to suggest that ABA is effective for many individuals regardless of diagnosis.

If your child is diagnosed with ASD and you have not already done so, you can apply to access funding for support through the Ontario Autism Program (OAP). The application form can be found here.
