Routines

Here are some tips and tricks for creating routines at home

Involve your child

If possible, involve your child in helping you to create a daily routine to follow at home. When kids are part of the planning process, they have a sense of ownership over what is happening, which supports development of confidence and independence.

Create routines using schedules

Break the day down into the tasks/activities you want to make sure are included. Examples could include: Morning Routine, Family Walk (yoga or indoor exercises if raining), Learning Times, Creative Time, Lunch Time, Chore Time, Quiet Time (alone), Snack Time, Outside Time, Free Time, Dinner Time, Bath/Shower Time, Research Time, TV Time, Bedtime Routine.

Consider the Physical Space

Think about your home environment. What spaces are best for working and learning? What spaces are best for hands on play and creative activities? Try to create a quiet space for your child to use consistently for work. Consider what materials you need to have available and what might be distracting and need to be removed.
