MAterials & Equipment

Would you like to have the 4-H Embryology Project in your school?

Your first step is to contact the St. Johns County 4-H Program to reserve equipment and request eggs. Our supplies is limited, so the sooner you contact us, the better!  With your reservation, we can offer you fertilized eggs, incubators, and other supporting materials and supplies. The 4-H Agent is also able to give a project orientation to both teachers and students at the start of the project. Details such as project start and end dates will be discussed when you contact your 4-H Agent. You can expect the project to last about four weeks. We recommend that you start the project on either a Tuesday or Wednesday so that your students will be in class when the hatching is taking place.

RESERVATIONS ARE FULL FOR THE 2023-2024 SCHOOL YEAR.

RESERVATIONS FOR THE 2024-2025 SCHOOL YEAR WILL BEGIN AUGUST 1ST, 2024.

What you will recieve:

Eggs

We receive our eggs from a local egg farmer. There will be a $6 fee charged by the egg farmer per dozen of eggs. This payment is preferred in cash as it goes directly to the egg farmer and is due at the time of egg drop off. While many teachers ask for each of their classes to hatch a dozen eggs, keep in mind those eggs will turn into living, breathing chicks in just 21 days! These chicks will need new homes at the completion of your project, so we ask that you be mindful of how many eggs you hatch if you have a large number of classes participating in the project.

Incubators

There is a $5 deposit per incubator. This $5 deposit is preferred in check and is refundable assuming that the incubators are returned cleaned and in the same condition as they were given. Checks can be made payable to the St. Johns County 4-H Association. The deposit will be due at the time of incubator drop off.

Supporting Materials

We can offer many supporting materials and supplies for you to utilize throughout your project. Materials and supplies include:

Training & Presentations

Your 4-H Agent is happy to offer training for teachers and presentations to students. The training to teachers can be given when the Agent brings the incubators to the school and will go over set-up and tips for the project. The 30-minute presentation for students will introduce them to the embryology project. During this time, students are encouraged to ask the Agent any questions they might have.
