Research

As an applied corpus linguist, my research focuses on using Corpus Linguistic methods and techniques to study language in use. My career started with a focus on Data-Driven Learning (DDL), a type of teaching that focuses on training language students to use corpora for their own learning. More recently, my work has revolved around using learner corpora to examine L2 development of phraseological features such as phrase-frames (p-frames), collocations, and constructions.

Although I haven't done much work yet, I am also interested in ESL teacher training in general as well as how Corpus Linguistics (and insights from Corpus Linguistics) can be used to examine or improve this training. This interests stems from my desire to help the future teachers I see in my classes reach their full potential.

In terms of student research supervision, I am willing to supervise students in a wide variety of corpus-based projects, from studying second language (L2) development to Sociolinguistics and Discourse Analysis. I am a member of the Corpus Linguistic Laboratory at the University of Florida.
