Associate Instructional Professor at the University of Florida
Welcome to my website! Have a look around to learn more about me, my teaching, and my research. Feel free to contact me with questions or comments.
My name is Jamie Garner (she/her) and I am currently an Associate Instructional Professor in the Department of Linguistics at the University of Florida. I am also currently the Coordinator of the undergraduate Linguistics program, the undergraduate Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) Certificate, and the graduate Second Language Acquisition and Teaching (SLAT) Certificate at the University of Florida. Originally from Alabama, I have taught English as a Second Language (ESL) in Germany, the United States, and South Korea. My research interests include learner corpus research, phraseology, and second language acquisition. Recently, my research has shifted to focus on transgender comics and comics history. I am currently working on a book under contract with Dr. Zoe Wendler titled ""Can We Offer You an Egg in These Trying Times?": Rhetoric, Memetics, and Transgender Comics", to be published by Lexington Books in 2026.
When I'm not teaching or doing research, I like to read, write, play games, and spend time with my wife and daughter.
