UE (also known as Pamantasan ng Silangan) is one of the Philippines’ leading universities, founded in 1946, having produced, for 77 years now as of September 2023, over a million alumni who have made their mark as leaders and achievers in various fields of endeavor across the country and around the world. UE was once labeled as largest university in Asia when it's enrollment reached 65,000 students.
The University of the East, Caloocan Extension Campus is a private higher education institution in Caloocan, Philippines. It is one of the three campuses (UE Manila, UERMMMC) of the University of the East system. It is located at 105 Samson Rd, Caloocan, Metro Manila.

The roots of university can be traced back to two rented rooms in Dasmarinas Street in Manila, where 110 students are enrolled in CPA Classes in September 1946 led by Dr. Francisco T. Dalupan Sr. Out of 110 students, four made it to top places in CPA board examinations in 1947. By its success, Dr. Dalupan and his colleagues opened the Philippine College of Commerce and Business Administration (PCCBA).
The PCCBA was granted its university status on July 3, 1951 and was renamed the University of the East. The succeeding years were a rapid growth for UE. More colleges were opened including its graduate schools. In June 1954, Dr. Dalupan and his associates opened the UE Tech on a 4.86 hectare lot along Samson Road, Caloocan also known now as UE Caloocan.
The University bought a one-hectare plot in Quezon City on Aurora Boulevard in 1955. It served as the foundation for the College of Medicine. The College was transformed into a Foundation and renamed the UE Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center (UERMMMC) on May 17, 1957, two years later.
A 5,850-square-meter plot on Aurora Boulevard, across from the Medical Center, was purchased by the University in 1962. The Research Center for Sciences, Humanities, and Culture was established out of this. Two buildings were there. The College of Dentistry and research labs were located in one, while the School of Music and Arts and the Ballet School were placed in the other. In the end, in 1981, the School of Music and Arts—now known as the College of Fine Arts—moved to the Caloocan Campus. During SY 1988–1989, the College of Dentistry likewise relocated to the Recto Campus.
1980s economic crisis and recession did not spare UE and it affected UE and its enrollment declined. With the plan, they were able to back normal and through this years, the university is currently expanding with its rapid growth in the number of the students who were enrolled.

UE Red Warriors, refer to the collegiate men's varsity team. The Women's collegiate varsity team is called UE Lady Warriors.
Figure 3. Lualhati Statue along with UE Logo
Lualhati was sculpted in bronze by well-known artist Guillermo Tolentino in the year 1952. Lualhati’s first unveiling was on January 27, 1957, with no less by then First Lady Luz Banzon Magsaysay gracing the occasion. It was also the time when Howard Q. Dee was the Alumni President. On March 31, 1997, 40 years later, the second unveiling of Lualhati took place. This was when she was transferred from the Rizal Hall of the SFC Building to where she is now located, at the quadrangle of the same building.
Majestically, Ofelia S. Salas or Lualhati stands at the center of the University grounds facing the main gate at Claro M. Recto. With hands outstretched in a welcoming gesture, Lualhati evokes the warmth and sincerity of welcoming, not only to new students but also to alumni and visitors as well. She personifies the cherishing and fostering mother, ever-caring, and ever-loving.

In June 1954, UE Tech constructed a new campus on a 4.86-hectare (12.0-acre) site along Samson Road in Caloocan. The addition of the Technical School as a junior college offering liberal arts courses and technical training, as well as a complete secondary course with both academic and vocational curriculum, brought the institution into accordance with the Department of Education's 2-2 Plan.
For a closer look, here is the University of The East's campus building map, along with the names of the buildings and the types of buildings available. As we can see, we have the LCT building, the ENGINEERING building, the TYK building, and many more.
DR. LUCIO C. TAN BUILDING (LCT BLDG.)
The Dr. Lucio C. Tan Building is a ten-story building that serves as the new home for UE Caloocan's Elementary and High School Department or EHSD (currently known as the Basic Education Department or BED). It was opened on September 25, 2012. This building, named after UE's chairman of the board and chief executive officer, has modern classrooms and labs, a big hall that can accommodate 500 people, a large library with multimedia resources, and much more.
The LCT building offers a wide range of services for students to utilize, including well-equipped facilities and inviting classrooms for studying. Students can experience a welcoming and secure environment at the University of the East. Parents can rest assured that their children will be prioritized, thanks to the presence of janitors, guards, teachers, and helpful senior students who are available to assist and guide them whenever needed.
TAN YAN KEE ACADEMIC BUILDING (TYK BLDG.)
The Tan Yan Kee Academic Building was officially opened in December 2003. It was named in honor of the late Tan Yan Kee, who is the father of UE's honorary chairman, Dr. Lucio C. Tan. The TYK Academic Building is home to the Caloocan Campus Colleges of Business Administration, Arts and Sciences, and Fine Arts. This impressive six-story structure, which had a construction cost of nearly 300 million pesos, features 54 air-conditioned classrooms, multimedia rooms, computer laboratories, a state-of-the-art Gigabit Ethernet system, a parking area, the Benjamin G. Chua Jr. Library (which pays tribute to the UE trustee of the same name), an information kiosk equipped with info-retrieval machines, offices for deans, faculty members, and college staff, as well as student council offices. Additionally, the building offers two elevators, a cafeteria, and even a helipad.
The TYK building offers many facilities similar to the LCT building. However, it is best known for its iconic architectural museum on the 5th floor and a large library that is a favorite spot for students of all grades. The building also has a spacious canteen on the ground floor, offering a wide range of food options with a beautiful view of the surrounding field.
ENGINEERING BUILDING (EN BLDG.)
The Engineering Building had CE and ME Laboratory Equipment and Facilities on the 1st floor, ECE and EE Laboratory Equipment and Facilities on the 2nd floor, and Lecture Rooms for all Engineering Courses on the 3rd floor. The 4th floor was originally unfinished at the time of operation and was later constructed in the early 90s. The Engineering Building, which has four stories, was opened in 1980. The technical shops were transformed into classrooms for students from the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Business Administration by November 2003. The building is four stories tall and contains more than 50 lecture rooms, 24 laboratories and lab rooms, tool rooms, stock rooms, two machine shops, and the campus's two multipurpose halls.
HRM MOCK HOTEL
One of the latest infrastructure achievements at the university is the HRM Building. The two primary components are the simulated hotel and the kitchen. The hotel consists of a reception area, travel area, dining area, suite, regular guest rooms, housekeeping room, and a skills laboratory. The building has a budget of P6.3 million, and the kitchen equipment costs around P8 million.UE offers a facility for students who are pursuing degrees in tourism and culinary arts.
UE GYMNASIUM
We would like to introduce our new gymnasium. Although it is not very large, it is spacious enough to accommodate our players for their training and events. In addition to the gymnasium, we also have a volleyball court specifically designed for beach volleyball. The court is filled with sand to prevent injuries and provide a comfortable and confident playing environment for our volleyball players. Our gymnasium hosts events such as intramurals, cheerleading, and more. Did you know that UE is known for its great sportsmanship, and we have players who represent our school with pride?
