Throughout this website, you will be able to learn more about the amazing elements of fashion I have learned in the past four years and my work experience. Though, I want to highlight characteristics about me that have gotten me to this point. Since I can remember, I have always been a person that was goal-oriented and never scared to go after something I wanted. I never have been one to let personal failures or disappointment stop me from my goal. I knew since I was a little girl that I wanted a job in the fashion industry and did not let anyone or anything change my mind. I admired the style of so many people like Rihanna and Blake Lively and designers like Karl Lagerfeld and Elie Saab because of the style and creativity that oozed out of these people. I could see how they not only influenced me, but others, and how they inspired so many as well. I knew I wanted to do the same within fashion in whatever career I chose.
Because of this, I knew I had to pursue my passion. There had been many times when people would tell me to pick another career because they believed making money was hard in this career. I did not let this scare me. Instead, it motivated me to continue chasing my dream so that I could show these people that it is very possible. Because of this, when it was time for me to apply for a college and choose a major, I knew right away where I wanted to go and what I wanted to do. Right away I chose to apply to the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) for Fashion Businment Management. Unfortunately, I did not get into FIT, which was very discouraging as it was my number one choice. It made me wonder if I was going into the wrong career path. Though, I did not let this stop me from pursuing fashion. Instead, it drove me to apply to the University of Delaware for the Fashion Merchandising major as I found out they had a visiting program for students to go to FIT. I was accepted into this institution and had a plan to complete the visiting program they had by ensuring I worked hard in all of my courses. Through my hard work and determination to attain this goal, I was accepted into this visiting program and could not have been more excited. Overall, this process taught me that what is mine will be mine and that when I set my mind to something, as long as I work hard, I can achieve it.
Even within my academics and work life, I have always tried to meet the goals I set for myself or goals that were placed on me. There have been several times in my academic life where I would have several projects or exams due in one week and I had to ensure I completed it all on time. I have had many late nights where I was extremely tired, but I knew I had to push through to get my work done. At work, I would have to take the role of more than one job title, if the times called for this, and I always exceeded my expectations, along with my managers' expectations. These scenarios I have encountered have led to me see that while some things may require much work and less time to relax, the feeling of accomplishment is always worth it.
In conclusion, I know that these characteristics I possess have gotten me through so many things in my life. My drive to chase my dreams, amid any disapproval, is why I am where I am today. Every failure I had ever had has made me such a stronger and better person. I know the skills I have will take me very far in life as long as I keep up the hard work and dedication.
