LET'S GET PERSONAL

Investigating Privacy Rights & Who Owns Your Data

Description

Does privacy stand alone, or is it deprioritized to other rights like personality, reputation, and property? Our data gets passed around to various organizations, who use it to fuel insights for financial gains … but it also opens up a real risk for data breaches and creates a flow of information hidden from consumers. The US doesn’t have a singular privacy law—but a mix of laws that cover distinct sectors, while Europe’s GDPR requires companies to ask for permission to use data and gives individuals the right to control their data. We’ll discuss these international laws, the case of Lloyd Vs. Google LLC, and other heated topics surrounding privacy rights.
