@channel SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT
We are SUPER excited to announce that we are now accepting applications for our Student Leader Program! This program is open to ALL students with big hearts, new ideas, and a willingness to help others You do not need prior leadership experience nor have specific technical knowledge to apply - although we do ask that if you’re going for a coveted Tech Leader role, that you have looked through the course content and feel confident you have the skills to help your classmates through any technical hurdles.
Student Leaders have traditionally led the student Slack community and for this program, we will also be looking for Student Leaders to help us drive community programs Past Student Leaders have described the experience as: “Fulfilling, Fun, Challenging, and Rewarding”
The deadline to submit Student Leader applications is Monday, July 6th @ 12PM PDT!
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q. Is the Student Leader program mandatory?
A. No. This program is completely voluntary.
Q. How much time can one expect to devote to the program?
A. Student Leaders generally spend 5-6 hours a week in their role. During the holidays - when the Scholarships team is offline - is really when we want to see Students Leaders online and stepping into their leadership position!
Q. What if I’m not selected to be a Student Leader. Do you have other recommendations on how I can get involved?
A. Yes! You can still make a positive impact by forming a Study Group (launching tomorrow), transcribing Community Manager AMA sessions, or answering questions around Slack. Try thinking outside the box and consider putting on a live technical webinar or hosting a technical AMA (post the details in #community_ideas). While it won’t be in an official Student Leader capacity you will still be helping your classmates in a big way. The sky’s the limit!
Q. What is the timeline on selection?
A. We hope to have selections finalized by end of day Monday, July 6th and we’ll announce our selections on Tuesday, July 7th. Those students selected for the Student Leader program will be invited to a private Slack channel where they will be given their channel assignments, a handbook, and next steps!
If you have a positive attitude and enjoy working with others we hope you will apply!
Best of luck!
@channel Welcome to the second week of the scholarship program! I hope everyone is well rested and ready to tackle week 2! Coming to you with a couple of updates!
No plans for free course version of your Nutanix scholarship foundations course
If you’ve participated in our previous scholarships, you would know that when the scholarship ends, we usually release a free course with the same content in the scholarship foundations course. For this specific scholarship program, we will not be launching a free version of the course. Knowing this, please make sure to save anything you need to!
I went ahead and updated the Community page with all the launch dates of all the initiatives we have planned. Please check it out! You can also import the scholarship calendar to your personal one. Check out the handy tips @DSdatsme provided on the Calendar page!
Channel Spotlight!
#relaxation_time is here for you to take a break from your course content and get to know your peers on another level Share your hobbies and passions in this channel! I’m excited to see what sorts of interests everyone has
I’ve also added some other requested channels, check them out by clicking “Channel Browser” at the top of the side menu on the left-hand side of Slack! Starting next week, we’ll have a regular AMA schedule of Mondays at 9am PDT and Wednesdays at 9pm PDT every week. The calendar will reflect the correct times and dates for the upcoming sessions!
Using other platforms to communicate
I’ve been noticing lots of students are using other platforms to communicate with each other, while that is fine, I am asking you to be very careful about privacy issues that come with using outside chat platforms. Please try using completely secure chat platforms if you’d like to continue conversations elsewhere.
Also! Please note that we can’t count conversations and posts that happen outside of Slack towards community participation! It may work in your favor to keep conversations here
On a last note, the orientation recording is up! The team had to re-record the session due to a technical mishap, so thank you so much for your patience Check out the slides and the recording on the landing page of the Google site!
