The scholarship program begins with the application. All students interested in the scholarship opportunity should submit a completed application before the application deadline. All applicants will then be notified of the admissions decision via email, regardless of whether they are accepted into the program. Accepted students will receive instructions via email about how they can enroll in the initial scholarship foundations course.
Phase 1: Scholarship Foundations Course
In the first phase of the Nutanix Hybrid Cloud Scholarship Program, students will receive rigorous training, typically requiring a few hours of work per week for 2-3 months. Students in the foundations course will be trained on job relevant skills in Hybrid Cloud foundation, receive a robust community experience supported by Udacity mentors and a dedicated Community Manager
Phase 2: Full Scholarship for a Udacity Nanodegree program
500 students in the program will earn a scholarship to a new Nanodegree program being developed with Nutanix. Nanodegree programs typically require several hours of work per week for the duration of the Nanodegree program. This program will offer world-class curriculum, a groundbreaking classroom experience, industry-leading instructors, thorough project reviews, and a full suite of career services.
Anyone 18 years of age and older is encouraged to apply. You must complete the application in full to be considered. Udacity employees and individuals that reside in countries subject to U.S. trade restrictions are ineligible to apply.
Scholarship recipients should be prepared to invest about 3-5 hours per week during the Foundations Course, which should run ~2 months.
The program takes place 100% online. You can work from wherever you want to, as long as you have a working internet connection.
Udacity's single courses consist of lessons, videos, and quizzes. But they do not provide comprehensive staff support available to answer technical questions, review student projects, and provide guidance and help. Scholarship students in Phase 1 of this program will receive technical guidance from community mentors and will participate in an actively managed scholarship student community where they can engage with and receive support from their fellow classmates.
In the initial scholarship fundamentals course, you will learn to navigate/implement hybrid cloud migrations and maintenance, especially with Nutanix solutions. The subsequent Nanodegree program will introduce you to the broader cloud infrastructure. You will learn to design a hybrid application deployment, create functioning web application using CALM, and design a hybrid cloud solution.
As increasing services move to cloud functionality, the need for cloud infrastructure expertise increases. In fact, nearly 90% of companies rely on cloud computing. With the cloud industry rapidly growing, the demand and supply of various cloud options will proliferate, necessitating enterprises to be able to support multi-cloud, multi-platform adoption. As companies further hybridize their IT/cloud solutions, Nutanix provides them with the tooling to support multi-cloud, multi-platform adoption.
You can study on your own schedule so long as you complete the course within 2 months. That is to say, you’ll have complete access to the course directly in your classroom 24 hours a day. We understand that students have different schedules and will work on their course at different times and on different days. What’s important is that students make consistent progress each and every week and get through all the content before the end of the 2-month period.
These scholarships do not guarantee you a job. But Udacity students often do get jobs after graduating from programs like these. Check out some student stories!

There will be a generic (no student name displayed) certificate of completion provided at the end of the Fundamentals course. The certificate is not a guarantee that you completed 100% of the course, make sure you do a manual check so that you don't miss any quizzes or videos!

You can switch your email by going to the Account Settings section, directly in your classroom. This is the “wheel” on the bottom left of the left-hand toolbar.
Completing all the core content in Phase 1 is one of the requirements in order to be considered for one of the follow-up Nanodegree scholarships in Phase 2.
Big picture, thousands of people applied for the opportunity to benefit from this scholarship. As a one of the selected recipients, we hope and expect you to take advantage of this valuable opportunity by finding the time needed to work through all of the concepts and lessons in your scholarship course.
There is no deadline for any specific task or lesson in this scholarship course. Rather you need to finish everything before the Phase 1 ends on August 21, 2020.
The scholarship challenge is a little over 2 months long, and we estimate that if you invest 10+ hours/week -- on reviewing instructional content, taking quizzes, working on your lab, and participating in other course-related activities such as engaging with your community and colleagues on Slack -- you will proceed through the program at a successful pace and finish with no problems before the scholarship ends.
But these 10+ hours/week are just an estimate; some students go much more quickly, while others go more slowly. Either way is totally okay.
You should note however that progress in the course will in part help determine the 500 recipients for the follow-up Nanodegree scholarships. As such, I do encourage you to participate actively and work to complete the course once you do find the time needed in your schedule.
You can study on your own schedule so long as you complete the course within approximately 2 months. That is to say, you’ll have complete access to the course directly in your classroom 24 hours a day. We understand that students have different schedules and will work on their course at different times and on different days. What’s important is that students make constant progress each and every week and get through all the content before the end of Phase 1.
We understand that everyone has busy lives, and you cannot be devoted to your coursework 100% of the time! That said, we are evaluating participation over the full two months, so do your best to keep a consistent presence on Slack while making progress in your course. If you miss a week or two, this will not have an impact on your overall participation, but if you will be offline for a month or more, then you’ll be approaching or exceeding half of your overall course time! If this is necessary, we recommend setting aside time (even just 10-15 minutes makes a difference) a couple of times per week to stay active in the various communities and make incremental progress in your coursework.
At this time, we won’t be sharing more details about how we will be measuring engagement. The participation requirement isn’t to check a box or to make us happy (though we do love seeing you interacting with each other!) The requirement is there because we have seen time and again that the most successful students are those who learn in community.
Regardless of Phase 2, we know that the students in this course will have a richer, more positive experience by learning from each other, sharing resources, and keeping each other motivated. For this reason, we encourage everyone to focus on where they can add and gain the most value. Make participation work for you — this is more likely to result in a better experience for you and for everyone else!
Congrats again on your acceptance into the Nutanix Hybrid Cloud Scholarship Challenge! Unfortunately, per the terms of the scholarship, your enrollment into your previous Nanodegree program cannot be refunded.
We recommend that you post technical questions in the #tech_help Slack channel so that you can get the valuable perspectives of both your peers, alumni volunteers, and the scholar community.
For Udacity students who are currently enrolled in a Nanodegree Program or have completed a Nanodegree, you will see Student Hub and Knowledge in your classroom — However they are tied to other Nanodegree Programs you may be enrolled in. They are not part of the Nutanix Hybrid Cloud Scholarship Challenge. Please rely on our Nutanix Hybrid Cloud Scholarship Challenge resources to help you reach that finish line.
No, students will be automatically unenrolled from the Foundations course past August 21st.
When Phase 1 ends on August 21st , we will review your work and progress from this initial part of the scholarship program. In general, we will allocate the follow-up scholarships to high performing students based on this criteria:
Successful completion of course material and attempts at all quizzes. To be clear, there is no reward for finishing first or early. We will evaluate everyone’s progress after the course ends on August 21st. This means making as much use of the community and network as possible in order to iterate on your work.
Support of fellow students and active participation on Slack. We have seen time and time again that the most successful students are those that learn in a community. We expect to see continuous engagement on Slack.
Review of all the selection criteria used in Phase 1.
