Slug Orientation

No Application needed. All Admitted Students will be enrolled on Canvas.

The online Orientation Course is designed to help you get into the Slug spirit by guiding you through the entire transition to the university process. This includes: navigating the campus, preparing for Fall class enrollment, making connections with other students, and getting your questions answered.

• Is this for course credit? 

  • Yes! Your Slug Orientation Course is 1-credit

• Is it Mandatory? 

  • Yes. In order to get an enrollment appointment, all incoming students must complete Parts 1 and 2 of the Online Orientation Course, and submit their official transcripts to admissions.

• Are there costs associated? 

  • Yes. You can use the Account Summary page on your MyUCSC portal to check if your Orientation Course payment has been processed or if you owe money.

Summer Edge 

Application Deadline: June 15

Students get an early start on their academic journey, taking their first classes at UCSC the summer before their first fall. Supported by Peer Mentors and summer staff, we're here to help students choose summer classes, understand how to apply for summer financial aid and connect with campus resources throughout the summer.

Students can choose to live on campus in Session 2 for the Edge Residential Experience, where they will start making friends through social events and learn how to be a successful student through academic workshops as they take their first classes. Peer Mentors live in the Residence Halls to help answer questions about their early start and run the social and academic programs.

Questions about anything fall and beyond is redirected to Orientation."

• Is this for course credit? 

  • Yes! You’ll take a minimum of 7 credits in addition to your 1-credit Slug Orientation Course. You can:

• Take classes to fulfill prerequisites, major, or General Education (GE) requirements.

• Complete an entire course series over summer (ex, Math 19A and Math 19B).

• Take a class to explore a major or passion while still earning credits that count toward your degree.

• Is it Mandatory? 

  • No, but it's a great way to get an early start on earning credit towards your UCSC degree

• Are there costs associated? 

  • Yes, per credit, but financial aid is available. For Summer Edge Residential, there is an option to live on campus for additional housing/dining costs.
