Do UCSC Campus Resources Help With Finding A Sense of Belonging?

In our research, we explored the potential correlation between awareness of campus resources and sense of belonging among UCSC students. We collected data from 188 UCSC students in a research methods course via questionnaire. Questions pertained to the student’s perception of belongingness at UCSC and their awareness of social/cultural activities and resources. Responses were given on a scale of 1-4 (1=strongly disagree, 4=strongly agree).

Awareness of school-provided resources had an overall mean of 2.37, while students' sense of belonging had an overall mean of 2.80. Our results indicated that students that are more involved in school activities have a greater sense of belonging. These results are helpful for guiding servingness programs at institutions which students lack belongingness, especially minority students like first generation students.
