My name is Gracie Creed and I am in my final quarter at UC Santa Cruz, graduating in June of 2021 with a degree in Earth Sciences and a concentration in Ocean Sciences. This summer, I will be interning remotely at the California Air Resource Board. I will be part of the research division and contributing to the organization’s outreach efforts to better communicate research results to the general public. This effort will include the development of pamphlets that describe current projects as well as the amplification of CARB’s message via social media platforms.
I am interested in a career in science-based climate and marine activism, ideally in a research role and working closely with both government agencies and communities to best address the problem of climate change. I am committed to ensuring that any climate solutions I contribute to are inclusive, involving direct input and action from communities impacted by the policy created, and consider environmental problems with an intersectional lens.
My goal for summer 2021 is to improve my understanding of how government can work with communities to find solutions and mitigate the effects of climate change. I would also like to expand my network, making connections with individuals currently working locally to help California meet its emissions and air pollutant goals and familiarizing myself with what day-to-day work looks like in this field.
