This is my current take on my six favorite photos - a very hard thing to do. It will likely change over time.
This is my current take on my six favorite photos - a very hard thing to do. It will likely change over time.
Western Bluebird: I took this along Coolidge Drive on the UCSC campus. I think it was one of my earliest (keeper) shots with the new camera and lens together.
Red-tailed Hawk: This is hawk frequents trees where we walk our dog every morning. It is probably also the same hawk that is on the right side of the banner photo on the home page. I must have dozens of "favorite" Red-tailed hawk photos at this point.
Great Egret: This is a Great Egret attempting to feed along the water line at Natural Bridges State Beach. I liked this one because of the water droplets captured in the air. I have several other favorites from that session at the beach.
Anna's Hummingbird: These are the most common hummingbird around here. I have many with them in flight but I really like the detail in this one with all of the lovely patterns in the feathers. This was taken at the UCSC Arboretum. The Australian Garden section is a favorite place for hummingbirds.
White-faced Ibis: I believe they are fighting rather than courting. We were at the Merced National Wildlife Refuge. I was photographing ducks sitting on that log when the first Ibis arrived and chased the ducks away. Soon after, a second Ibis arrived and they engaged in this tussle for about 25 seconds. I have a jerky "video" of the full 120 or so frames I shot while this was happening. This is my favorite from that sequence.
Brown Pelican: These are abundant, but Linda really loves them so I had to include this shot. Not the usual graceful gliding over the waves which makes this photo a favorite. This also was taken at Natural Bridges State Beach.
