Most music lessons last for 30 minutes and the fee for ten such private lessons will be £300. The instrumental teachers are self-employed, independent professional teachers and will invoice you directly at the start of each term. Payment must be made upon receipt of invoice. Lessons may be terminated if fees are not received within 14 days of being invoiced. On average, each pupil should receive 30 lessons during the school year, although because of the unequal length of the terms, they may be unevenly distributed. A term's written notice, or payment in lieu, is required to stop lessons. This must be sent to the teacher concerned, with a copy to Mr. Lanigan-O’Keeffe, Music Co-ordinator at the JB (s.lok@ucs.org.uk). Full details of the terms and conditions of tuition appear on each invoice and on the reverse of this form
Music lessons will remain on the same day each week (unless they have had to be moved due to trips / tests or if the music teacher is unable to come in on that day, in which case you would be advised in advance.) Boys will be taken out of class to attend their music lessons, but we try to rotate the time of the music lessons each week as best we can so that boys don’t miss the same academic lessons in consecutive weeks.
Please be aware that some rotations are more difficult than others as there are certain restrictions with boys being off-site for games and PE etc…
Boys will remain on timetable unless a term’s notice is given in writing and boys can only learn one instrument at a time at the JB.
Unfortunately, the school does not hire out instruments but we recommend Dot’s in Camden (020 7482 5424) or Foote’s in WC1E (020 7323 2213) as places to either buy or hire instruments.
Music lessons will start the first week of term and it is important that boys remember to bring in their instruments and music on the days of their lessons. Boys will be advised as to what music they need on their first lesson.
You will be invoiced directly by the visiting music teacher during the first few weeks of term and payment should be made directly to them within 21 days.
There is a music notice board outside the music room, which will have all the music timetables up for boys to check their lesson time each week.
If a music teacher is unable to come in for a lesson, they will either give a catch-up lesson or charge you accordingly but if a boy is absent for a lesson for any reason then the visiting music teacher is not obliged to make the lesson up although often they will if they can.
Boys will be collected from class by their music teacher initially but should check the music notice board in advance to see the time of their lesson.
If your son wishes to learn a second instrument, he must arrange tuition out of school. Mr. Lanigan-O’Keeffe is pleased to discuss matters with parents or pupils at any time and can be contacted by email, or by telephone at school during term time on 020 7435 3068.
