Anesthesiology is the specialty that focuses

on the preoperative care of patients before,

during and after surgery. Anesthesiologists

evaluate, monitor and supervise patients

during all aspects of surgery. This

encompasses anesthesia, intensive care

medicine, critical care/emergency medicine

and pain management.
