Technical Theatre
Technical Theatre is a branch of the theatre program. Students who take classes in technical theatre will go on to study scenic design and construction, lighting design, stage management, and many other facets which support all of our performing arts productions.
Theatre Academy students are required to take Technical Theatre I during their sophomore year, while Dance Academy students are required to take Technical Theatre I during their Freshman year.
**All tech theatre courses are available to the entire student body of CATA except Advanced Specialization.** A student does NOT have to be in a performing arts academy to take a tech theatre course.
Course Offerings
Students can choose to take upper level tech courses after completing Tech I. These courses can include:
Technical Theatre II (Honors)--focus in Design
Play Production (Honors)--specific focus in stage management and other production facets
Peer Tutoring (Honors)--students who have shown significant mastery of Tech Theatre I may choose this course as a way to assist new Tech Theatre I students with power tool usage, design basics, and will operate as shop foremen.
Advanced Specialization (Honors)--these courses are offered for Theatre students who wish to pursue design heavy projects (ie--student designers for class theatre productions and/or the spring musical regarding scenic design, lighting design, properties design, and/or stage management.)
**Physical Theatre** (Honors)--not offered to freshmen. This course is available to ALL CATA students (10th-12th) regardless of academy; it is a movement and performance based course that focuses on character development, physicality, and stage combat techniques.
