CATA's dance academy guides students to appreciate dance as a living, progressive art form. Students practice techniques, including ballet, contemporary, jazz, tap, hip hop, and improvisation. Additional studies relevant to dance as an academic endeavor include dance history, kinesiology, health for performing artists, and choreographic methods. Assessment of knowledge is determined through both written assignments and performed presentations.
Admittance into the dance academy is determined by audition, required for prospective freshman and sophomore students. The dance pathway is not designated by the general district lottery. In addition to required core academic classes, students must complete all academy courses, electives, and performance requirements. The dance program consists of 6 levels: Beginning, Intermediate, Accomplished I, Accomplished II, Advanced I (Specialization), and Advanced II.
