Apparel is a CTE based course that explores fashion trends and the construction of clothing for appropriate time periods. In this course students learn the basics of hand-sewing, creating pin cushions, "ugly dolls" and other small projects. Students will also learn how to operate a sewing machine in order to create textile-based projects. The semester ends with a month-long project that allows students to construct a garment of their choice.
In order to serve the Performing Arts students, particular emphasis is also placed on how the elements of design in fashion can be used to tell a story. Some items in the standard course of study are covered through a costume design unit during the second term of the class.
