Program Planning

Students will be encouraged to read, listen or watch five reading materials from the given resources in Reading and Literature section each month from October until the end of the school year in May. They will be rewarded with a high five from teachers and families after completing a reading material.  I will also collaborate with the Arts teacher in making the children's handprints. Parents or guardians will help them write or draw on each finger of their handprint the titles of the materials that they utilized for that month. Moreover, I will collaborate with the public library so that students and parents will be encouraged to use their resources. 

The planning stage of this project will start in September and then will be implemented in October through May.  This project will kick-off with a video about a popular children's book author reading a book. Before the kick-off, I will email the author and will request for a brief introduction of her/himself through a short video or a letter that I will read to class.  There will be a special book, audiobook, animated book, read-along for each month with related activities to each material.

Every child who completes a handprint for each month will have a chance to pick a prize from a treasure box and they will be entered in a monthly drawing for a bigger prize.
