This reading promotion project will be for Henry County R-1 School District, Windsor Elementary School. The target audience for this project is the Kindergarten classes in the school. These Kindergarten students are ages 5-6 years old. Students will be engaged in listening to stories from books being read to them, listening to audiobooks, watching read-aloud. Most Kindergarten students are just starting to learn basic reading skills and listening to stories is an excellent way in learning reading skills.
The total enrollment in 2021 in Kindergarten is 39 distributed in three classes. According to the Building Demographic Data in 2021 from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, 93.70% of the total population of the school is White, 3.30% is Hispanic, 1.50% is Multi-race and the rest is American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian, Black or Hawaiian/Pacific Islander. Fifteen per cent of the total population in the building is gifted while 12.15% is in Special Education. I did not see any specific demographic data for Kindergarten. However, knowing the building's demographic tells me that there is a diverse student population in school.
