Detentions & How to Avoid Them

By Leo Wilkinson

Now when I say about detentions and how to avoid them I don't mean skip or avoid detentions. I mean try hard to not get a detention.

Some easy and simple ways to not get detentions are:

  • Do your homework

  • Do what the teacher says

  • Try to get to class on time

  • Stay organised

  • Do your work

Now the easiest way to not get detention is to stay organised by doing your homework as soon as possible and keep track of what needs to be done. This can really help especially if you struggle with homework. Set reminders for things like pe kits or homework reminders so you can keep on track. You could even make a to-do list or some sort of journal or book for upcoming things. This can help you stay organised which will help you do your homework which hopefully minimises detentions however journals and reminders doesn't really help from getting detentions for things like behaviour!

The best way to avoid these ones is trying your best to behave and do as your teacher says. This can be hard but hopefully you can keep in that conversation or joke until break!

And at some point you may find yourself being late! Now this is an easy thing to get detentions for unless you have a valid reason. If you really need to get to a place on time you can ask a teacher if you can go a few minutes early or just try to find a good and quick way to get to class on time. Almost like a short cut! If it's something like arriving at school just ask your parents or guardians if you can go earlier.

Disclaimer: you don't have to follow these steps, it's just to try to help.
