-Questions?
What is Justice? It is the main question in Death Note, but when trying to come up with a humanistic research question it had to be more complex than just what justice is. Instead, I tried to come up with a question that explains why so many Japanese authors are influenced/fascinated by this idea. What makes Death Note so intriguing that many Japanese authors have been influenced and why is it so popular in America after years of the series ending? When talking about the anime series Death Note is always brought up at least once as it is a big mainstream one that many first-time anime watchers watch at least once. I would say that the idea of being able to have justice served is what gets to many, especially those in the West in which our justice system is flawed, so seeing criminals being punished is very satisfying.
So my questions for this series are:
How do Death Note’s efforts in showing the spectrum of Justice influence/say about our own justice system? Why is it that mainstream media for teens has been influenced by nihilism
…
How do Death Note’s nihilistic ideas of the justice system and their world, reflect our own? Why is it that we are so fascinated with the idea of justice being served
Although I haven't talked about nihilism much, after reading more secondary sources I have learned that a lot of Death Note ideas are actually influenced by nihilism. So moving forward I am probably going to incorporate Plato's Republic as a secondary source on top of the others I have found online since I have read and analyzed it before.
