For my spring research project, I have chosen an episode from an animated series called Death Note. Since it is a long series I will be choosing one episode from the show and talking about 1 specific scene. Though I haven't settled on which episode yet I have 3 main choices. I settled for this show since its main issue/question they ask is “What is Justice” and that usually breaks down into 2 different opposing views. One from a young high school student and the other from a world-renowned detective. Although both are interested in law and its system, the student seems to be more in favor of self-justice, the system is corrupt, while the detective follows the rules set out by the law and follows them.
Hopefully, with this question and ideas in the air, I also learn what type of justice is more my own style because I’d like to believe there is no one answer, everyone can see both sides and they both have their own pros and cons. I also hope whoever reads this also gets a sense of what justice means to them and if they themselves relate to any of the character's ideas of justice.
So far when looking at secondary sources I saw I had a much easier time finding articles and journals since this anime was very and still very popular and due to its main idea of justice many can pick up and understand it, so many of the sources do argue what was Death Note trying to say about justice and then try to answer what is justice. I love that these still continue to make others question what is and isn't justice and that there is no definitive answer. Maybe I will answer it or not, we will see but I am excited to see how this goes
