A handscroll painted with ink and color to represent the 16 Luohans, or Arhats; they are the "sages", ones who've been able to reach self-actualization following Buddhism.
The Vietnamese folktale about the origin of Vietnamese people- as the children made between a dragon, Lac Long Quan, and a fairy, Au Co.
Folktales are an interesting way of getting to know a society. Is it the society that makes the tale, or is it the tale that guides and makes the society? In doing this tale, it would mean that both visual and literary analyses are needed. I think I'm leaning more towards this source to put at the center of my research.
16 Luohans
Being a Buddhist person, hearing and researching about the 16 Luohans would be interesting; reaching the state where all suffering is no more and freedom from the world is an end goal. With this source, more of a visual analysis will be needed.
I've been looking different scholarly secondary sources that are available for each of the sources. All of the questions I have searched up tend to be questions that follow the sources laterally- not directly asking questions related to the sources.
