The commemorative textiles included in this online exhibition do not in any way represent political views of the exhibition curators and the University of Alberta Museums. These textiles were collected as examples of the African Commemorative Cloth phenomena and commemoration of some historic events and figures. We actively seek to collect more textiles reflecting the diversity of political views that have existed in these and other African countries.
The University of Alberta respectfully acknowledges that we are located on Treaty 6 territory, a traditional gathering place for diverse Indigenous peoples including the Cree, Blackfoot, MĂ©tis, Nakota Sioux, Iroquois, Dene, Ojibway/ Saulteaux/Anishinaabe, Inuit, and many others whose histories, languages, and cultures continue to influence our vibrant community.
