Carl Heywood is an established Canadian printmaker, and considers printmaking as an ongoing and complex process for the exploration of colour. Heywood reflects, “in printmaking, the means of expression–the etching plate, the silk-screen, the view camera, the ink roller–all give visual form to thought in the same way that the piano, voice, or string quartet give form to sound.”

His work can be found in many major public collections such as the National Gallery of Canada, the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, England, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, United States. Now a professor emeritus at Queen’s University, Heywood continues to live and work in Montréal, Québec.
