The International Student Service centre is a comprehensive guide to international student life at the University of Alberta. It is strongly encouraged that you connect with International Student Services and meet a Welcome Ambassador (located at 142 Telus Centre, on campus) so they can help you acclimatize to campus.
Here are some additional resources from ISS:
- Peer Program - connect with peers who will share experiences and resources
- Housing information - both on and on campus housing options
- Culture & Lifestyle Guide - includes information on Edmonton's famous weather!
- Food - where to find food options on or near campus
- Emergency Guide - what to do in case of emergency
- 911 is the emergency services line in Canada; if you or someone else requires immediate medical attention, if there is a fire, you witness/are involved in a serious motor vehicle collision, or you see a crime in progress, call 911
- University Protective Services - 780-492-5050 (accessible via emergency (blue) phones on campus)
- The closest hospital for emergency services is the University of Alberta Hospital
- Money, Insurance, and Permits Guide - this has information regarding how to access money services, receive health care, renew your study permit, or obtain a social insurance number (SIN)
- As soon as you obtain a SIN, please present it (along with one other piece of government-issued photo ID) to the KSR Graduate Program Administrator for update in the payroll system.
- City of Edmonton Newcomers' Guide (various languages available)
- City of Edmonton New Resident Programs
- City of Edmonton Citizen & New Arrival Information Centre (located downtown at Churchill LRT Station; accessible via northbound LRT - Clareview)
Upon arrival at the Edmonton International Airport, stop by the Airport Welcome Booth (open August - September) for information regarding all of your initial questions about campus. A free shuttle from the airport to campus is available; sign up is located at this booth.
It is also a good idea to seek out a student group from your country; the Students' Union group listings can be found here. You can also google or facebook search for "[your country] University of Alberta student group". Some of these groups also offer airport pickup.
