Effective communication is an important aspect of patient advocacy. A poor understanding of the case or inability to articulate the crucial medical information can result in delays or errors in patient care. This workshop will be an interactive group session identifying learner difficulties with confident effective communication and how to develop that Succinct Summary skill.
Dr Sarah Smith: Graduated from University of Western Australia. Completed post graduate training in Tamworth Australia, including board member for the New England Area General Practice Training Program, and Cairns Australia graduating as a Fellow of the Australian College of General Practitioners. Employed as a Medical Educator for General Practice Registrars in Cairns Australia in addition to full time Rural General Practice. Special interests and post-graduate training and positions included critical care, emergency medicine and palliative care.
Married with two children and after 5 years of full time Rural General Practice decided to travel around Australia and home school the kids for 18 months. During this time took locum positions in Rural and Remote Emergency Departments around Australia. In 2013 decided to check out Canada for a change! Currently full time Rural Family Physician in Edson Alberta including emergency department, inpatients and community palliative care. Site coordinator of the Integrated Clinical Care Students program in Edson. Improvement Facilitator for Edson Medical Centre of 15 doctors with aim to Enhance Primary Care in the Edson community with focus on enhancing the Patients Medical Home and maintaining a strong working relationship with the McLeod River Primary Care Network. Spare time activities include photography, kayak fishing and hiking including the West Coast Trail in 2017.
