The design studio offers design research on topics related to the fragile territories characterized by risks induced by internal or external, natural or anthropic factors such as hydrogeological, seismic, etc. These scenarios impose a different sense of responsibility towards the climate changes and those transformations that affect the balance and dynamics of very delicate areas: the coasts, the banks of rivers and streams, urban centers or small villages.
Territorial risks and vulnerabilities require innovative approaches and specific skills in a systemic vision where the architect play the role of a link between different disciplines by translating them into interscalar strategies that relate the landscape, the city, the building.
The care of territories and cities due to their multiscalar and multisectoral nature becomes an indicator of resilience, a red thread that connects the building to an inhabited center, to the territory, strongly marked by the instabilities induced by a pure speculative vocation of constructing .
The design studio identifies fragile zones on the territory of Prilep in relation to the waterscapes that are intended as case studies with equivalent issues on which the students will develop design strategies. The aim of the work is to define and test solutions which, through the architectural project, produce positive effects on the mitigation of the identified risks. Their collection and systematization will allow to build an Operative Lexicon conceived as a "toolKIT" – device of tools and actions.
The multidisciplinary lessons and the comparison between the different geographic contexts will allow the student to acquire specific skills and knowledge on risk issues becoming a key figure in the transformation processes for the safety of cities and territories.
