PLO 2 - Demonstrate the ability to integrate pedagogical approaches and educational technologies in practical classroom teaching and training as well as the ability to reflect on the effective application of technology-supported pedagogical approaches.
School was a scary place to be when I was younger. I remember the alienation I felt when I began to realize that I wasn’t learning the same way as my other classmates. The anxiety I felt in the classroom prevented me from participating and working through my confusion. This experience is the main reason why I chose to become a teacher. When imagining how students will be able to participate in learning, considering those barriers always come to the forefront of my mind. Therefore, integrating educational technology to assist and support struggling students aligns with the Pedagogy & Theory Standards that outline the ACTE’s mission. In this Google Slide presentation I created, I made a comprehensive list of pedagogical approaches and educational technologies that can be utilized to build the confidence of shy and struggling students. This list may be used by classroom teachers to learn about or add to their arsenal of EdTech tools to help learners.
Learning and understanding new information can be challenging, especially when your brain and your senses are overwhelmed by and unable to process too much information at one time. The Redundancy Principle suggests that it is possible to enhance communication by repeating key information in more than one way. The principle suggests that by doing this, the person receiving the information is better able to understand and remember the information given. I created a YouTube video for educators to familiarize themselves and give examples of how the Redundancy Principle works for their learners inside the classroom when trying to tackle new and challenging concepts.
What are the ideal conditions for learning to happen effectively? In this research paper, I explore the Coherence Principle in relation to the mistakes I’ve made in the past, and the ways that I have rectified learning materials that better align with findings supported by the Coherence Principle. By applying this theory to educational technologies used in the classroom, this paper helps to demonstrate my new understanding of finding the balance between engaging a learner without overwhelming their senses, to foster the most ideal learning environment.
Friend or foe? What is the mindset towards technology in the classroom? As teachers today find themselves in a space questioning the merits of incorporating technology, I reflect on the 3 relative advantages of including technology in the English Language Arts. In this post, I apply my knowledge of pedagogical approaches and theories, to look more closely at ways technology can boost the confidence and participation of shy students, differentiated approaches to demonstrate understanding, and ways it can assist in reading and writing.
