PLO 5 - Demonstrate educational technology leadership in school and community through research and innovations in emerging teaching and learning environments (e.g., online, blended, mobile, game-based, competency-based).
This artifact is an infographic I created about the definition of Educational Technology using Piktochart. I used the definition of Educational Technology as stated by the AECT (Association for Educational Communications and Technology). From there I broke down important words and phrases to provide an even more precise definition. I shared this infographic on my Twitter account to share my learning and understanding with my professional learning network. This connects to PLO 5 as share my research connected to how technology supports online and blended learning environments.
Being able to make an argument that is supported by credible evidence is a life skill. At the school I currently teach, this type of evidence-based writing is something that students must be able to do at every grade level and in every subject. However, in a post-covid world, being able to do this through the challenges of covid-related absences, student attendance was shaky and sporadic, making it difficult to teach anything seamlessly. To better support student learning, I created a self-paced web-based writing course to help students learn and practice CER writing. This course is something that can be completed in person with collaborative opportunities built in. It can also be used by students to go back and clarify anything they need to review. Students may also access it at home if they were forced to stay home and quarantine. The course itself is a blended, self-paced, and mastery-based learning experience that puts the students, not the teacher, at the center of their learning reflecting my understanding of PLO 5.
An aspect of leadership in education is connecting the learner's environment to the content. In this artifact I created an anticipatory activity for Jason Reynolds' novel Long Way Down, using Google Maps to help students step inside and connect to the world of the narrator. Students will utilize Google Maps to research the gangs that dominate their own neighborhoods. This artifact connects to PLO 5 because I think outside the box to innovatively incorporate types of technology to help immerse the learner.
Have you ever Googled yourself? Did what you find surprise you? I created this YouTube video to help others better educate and protect themselves with their digital footprint online. Using my leadership skills in technology and in a community of learners, I made this video to share with peers and posted it to Twitter, demonstrating my competency in PLO 5.
In EDTECH 541, Integrating Technology into Classroom Curriculum, I created a Blog to document my learning journey via WordPress. The artifacts below are the blog posts in which I explore crucial elements of educational technology like assistive technology, acceptable use policies, the relative advantage of using technology, G Suite, and my experiences in the classroom incorporating technology. These artifacts reflect my learning of PLO 5 by sharing my research and experiences with a larger learning community online.
