PLO 4 - Apply professional and ethical standards (e.g., accessibility, diversity, copyright) to all aspects of teaching and learning.
As we navigate a digital landscape, members of AECT (Association for Educational Communications and Technologies) commit to a professional code of ethics. In this YouTube video I created, I explore Section 1 (Commitment to the Individual Learner), taking a closer look at Principle 6, which protects users of technology from harassment or online bullying. This artifact demonstrates my understanding of PLO 4 by creating learning content to help people learn what is considered acceptable and responsible use of technology and communications. In this, I use a character, a real-life scenario, and an opportunity for the learner to transfer their learning in a multiple-choice question. This video can be helpful to other high school teachers who would like to set clear expectations of how technology should be used respectfully in the classroom.
It’s obvious that we humans love our technology, especially the internet and our phones. However, for users with different sets of abilities, this type of technology isn’t always easy for them to access in an equitable way. Because of this, it’s important for educators to ensure that all students are able to interact with the web-based learning content. I created a website that may serve as a collection of web accessibility resources that teachers can learn about and implement for struggling readers, writers, and emerging multilinguals in their classroom as supports in accessing the learning content. This website displays my competency in PLO 4 as I curate resources for other teachers to use when trying to help a struggling student.
This is a website I built to address appropriate netiquette to use when navigating public digital forums. The tips on this website may be helpful to any and all users of online network communications. This artifact reflects my understanding of PLO 4 as it directly addresses professional and ethical use practices of online communication.
This artifact is a presentation I made about adaptive and assistive technology to support students with special needs. Other teachers may use this presentation as a curation of tools to reference when looking to find technologies to break down barriers in education and gain success and access to education. This artifact connects to PLO 4 as I demonstrate my understanding of making learning accessible to everyone, no matter the challenge.
This artifact is an infographic I made about Acceptable Use Policies and guidelines for schools to set when it comes to how technology is used and user responsibilities. I created this graphic using Canva. I shared this graphic on my Twitter account for other educators to be able to use within their own classes or as simply just a reminder. This artifact connects to PLO 4 as I address the ethical parameters necessary to make the use and incorporation of technology a safe and positive experience for everyone.
