Working and creating on eLearning platforms can be intimidating, but don’t worry. All you have to do is start!
When I signed up for my first eLearning and Authoring course at Boise State University, I was nervous that I wouldn’t get it. Adobe Captive, Camtasia, and the Articulate storyline looked so intimidating that I was put off. That did not last long, though; as soon as I started playing around on the different platforms, I had a good feeling.
It’s like when you start to ride a bike after not riding for a long time. The handles are wobbly, but you get a good feeling and balance, and riding a bike becomes fun.
Working in these programs made me realize how much I love creating and I have taken some extra eLearning courses on LinkedIn (check out eLearning Tips by Tim Slade).
Although I hope to continue to create, I recently had an Ah Ha! Moment. I realized that eLearning is not a one-and-done and cannot be the only training source. I realized that for learners to get well-rounded training, they need more than just eLearning. To do what is best for your learner, you must first do a needs analysis to truly know if eLearning is what they need.
I am so pleased to have taken this class, it provided me with a solid foundation for eLearning so that I can continue my development. My goal is that, with practice, I can get better at using Camtasia and produce solid courses and videos.
