How do I get a job without experience? And experience without a job?
If there's one thing people know about me is that I love listening to Podcasts. Recently I heard a Podcast from Dr. Luke Hobson called “How to get experience without a job," and it made me go, hmmm.
In his podcast, he talks about how hard it can be to land an instructional designer job. Most descriptions want years of experience, but how do you get to experience without a job? Consequently, how do you get a job without experience?
In episode 52, Dr. Luke Hobson answers, “find a rockstar subject matter expert or SME to work with. You need to be able to find someone deeply passionate about what it is that they do.” While posting on job boards and social media may get you a volunteer or internship opportunity, you want to ensure it’s worth your time and energy.
So, who are the people you should be contacting? Entrepreneurs.
At some point, entrepreneurs have realized that one way to generate different revenue streams is by making courses and who can help them with that? It's YOU!
He adds, that they are subject matter experts in their craft, they care deeply about the content, they know everything about it, and they know it like the back of their hand. They likely already have a whole bunch of content you can start with and look through.
So, if you have entrepreneurs in your network, reach out and offer to help.
Grow that Portfolio!
