Online Communication

Reflection

In this assignment, I learned how to create a podcast. screencast and blog for an online course. The podcast was a hit! I shared it with some teachers on how to get started with EdTech at Compton Unified. The screencast is published on YouTube in order to help educators use Jamboard in the classroom. The blog was a great way for students to share ideas with other students in the LEGO League.

The purpose of this assignment was to learn how to use Podcast, Screencast and Blog in the classroom. This made me appreciate these wonderful tools to share information and to collect responses from teachers and students. These powerful tools allow me to create content and teach students how to be content creators.

Podcast

The objective of my Podcast series was to inform new, incoming and veteran teachers at Compton Unified about the EdTech resources they have available. We started with exploring the district website and district email. Secondly, we explored Classlink, which is our single sign on platform for all the digital platforms available at Compton. Finally, I introduced Google Classroom as our learning management system at CUSD. This is the best platform that is available at the district for teachers to organize, give student feedback and assign student digital work.

I strongly believe that these small episodes will give insights to educators at Compton with all the resources that area available to them. Teachers tell me all the time that they are unaware of the resources that are available to them. They get bombarded with so many emails, and some prefer a small chat or conversations with the EdTech teams, instead of another email. A Podcast will serve this purpose, in providing teachers with Professional Development on demand and in small chunks. It opens an opportunity for professional growth and building a community using the podcast. This is something that cannot be done with emails or any other platforms out there. Looking forward in sharing this Podcast series with Compton educators and educators around the world!
