Library books listed on lesson plan - either a copy for each student or the teacher can read the book aloud to all students.
Find an afterschool program that will bring in several sewing machines and help the students sew together the quilt shapes. If that is not available, the students can hand-sew the pieces together.
If possible, bring in community members of different cultures to show personal quilts and explain their meaning.
Classroom such as an Art Room or Lunchroom with long tables instead of desks for placement of sewing machines
