Inspired by the childhood of model Georgie Badiel, our students dove into a meaningful discussion of the picture book The Water Princess by Susan Verde. Through this beautiful story, the class explored the daily realities of water scarcity and the incredible resilience of a young girl for her village in Burkina Faso. Real stories such as this is a great piece to learn more about global citizenship.
Students work in group and choose one of three distinct tasks to complete. They can either compare and contrast the life of the protagonist with contemporary living conditions in Taiwan, identify and analyze the common problems highlighted throughout the story, or compose a heartfelt letter of encouragement to individuals currently living in difficult conditions.
