At the end of 2022, the New Taipei City Education Bureau launched the BBnA Middle School English Self-Directed Learning Enhancement Project, partnering 96 American youth volunteers with 19 middle schools and 200 students for a semester of 16 online English lessons. The volunteers came to Taiwan to host English immersion camps and community exploration activities. The project concluded with an all-English international forum at Xinpu Middle School, where students presented their work in English to demonstrate their progress.
The project involved international exchanges between the volunteers and Taiwanese students. The diverse and engaging lessons boosted students' interest and confidence in learning English, promoting self-directed learning and a global perspective. The curriculum included science activities and cultural celebrations, helping students learn English through real-life experiences. Through a combination of online and in-person classes, students improved their English skills, motivation, and focus.
The Education Bureau highlighted that this project, through public-private cooperation and international volunteers, created a full English-learning environment. From online lessons to camps and forums, students were able to apply their English in real-world settings. The bureau aims to encourage continued self-directed learning and create more opportunities for students to share their stories of academic growth.
