On November 6th, 2024, the teachers and staff at Heren School took part in a fun and flavorful baking workshop, where we learned to make Guiyuan dan gao—also known as longan muffins. The workshop was led by one of our talented school community parents, and it turned out to be a truly heartwarming and delicious experience.
My wonderful co-teacher Joyce and I kicked off the session by introducing the ingredients and essential kitchen tools everyone would be using to create our sweet treats. With the basics covered, we broke into small groups of six to begin baking.
It was not only a great way to learn something new, but also the perfect opportunity for me to get to know my fellow staff members better. There was a lot of laughter, teamwork, and of course, taste-testing along the way.
This was actually my first time trying Guiyuan dan gao, and I’ve got to say—I’m officially a fan! While I don’t have the secret recipe we used in the workshop, here’s a helpful [link to a recipe for Guiyuan dan gao](insert your link here) in case you want to give it a try at home
