Below are a list of teaching resources, websites, and organizations I have used in my pursuit of integrating global education into my curriculum.
The Center for Global Education, the Asia Society, and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development has published an excellent resource called Global Competence in a Rapidly Changing World.
Global competence is defined in the PISA framework as the combination of four domains (investigate the world, recognize perspectives, communicate ideas, and take action). Pages 12-16
The U.N. SDGs were adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. The World's Largest Lesson is a site that offers videos, lesson plan ideas, and links to free materials to aid in teaching the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs). Lesson plans are based themes, grade-level, and subject matter,
Project Zero was developed by the Harvard Graduate School of Education. It teaches thinking routines as a set of questions or a brief sequence of steps used to scaffold and support student thinking. I have a folder filled with Google Slide templates dedicated to PZ's thinking dispositions. A published piece by the institute can be found here.
Teaching with Google encourages educators to use Google Earth to enhance lessons in every subject while teaching map skills. Lesson plans, maps, and reference sources are available by grade, subject, and resource type.
Constitute offers access to the world’s constitutions so that users can systematically compare them across a broad set of topics—using an inviting, clean interface. It also allows users to compare and contrast specific constitutional principles such as the Freedom of Speech.
This organization provides a list of K-12 reading books (fiction and nonfiction) based on grade level, dedicated to exposing students to the international community.
iCivics is non-profit organization in the United States that provides educational online games and lesson plans to promote civics education and encourage students to become active citizens. I have been a member of the iCivics Educator Network since 2020.
