Project Guidelines

The aims of the personal project are to encourage and enable students to:

participate in a sustained, self-directed inquiry within a global context
generate creative new insights and develop deeper understandings through in-depth investigation
demonstrate the skills, attitudes and knowledge required to complete a project over an extended period of time
communicate effectively in a variety of situations
demonstrate responsible action through, or as a result of, learning
appreciate the process of learning and take pride in their accomplishments.

Project Ideas:

- - - - Build something, like a dog house, furniture, or a computer
      - Learn how to play an instrument (or play it better)
      - Write something original (no AI), like a book, play, or collection of poems
      - Create a course or lessons to teach a skill to someone else
      - Research ancestry and create a family tree
      - Choreograph an original dance
      - Develop a website to address a social issue
      - Start and manage a YouTube channel
      - Refurbish or renovate old items
      - Compose an original song
      - Invent something and create a prototype
      - Learn to play a sport (or play it better)
      - Design an app
      - Learn or develop cosmetology skills
      - Create a portfolio for artwork or photography
      - Learn to sew, crochet, or knit and make items (clothing, hats, scarves, blankets)
      - Start a business
      - Make a short film
      - Save and/or raise funds to purchase something expensive
      - Learn to make handcrafted items, like jewelry or candles

Students will present their personal project reports to their advisory class in November, and the school will host a gallery to showcase projects and allow students, teachers, and parents to view the projects.

The personal project report will be assessed on how well students:

Objective A: Plan

state a learning goal for the project and explain how a personal interest led to that goal
state an intended product and develop appropriate success criteria for the product
present a clear, detailed plan for achieving the product and its associated success criteria.

Objective B: Apply skills

explain how the ATL skill(s) was/were applied to help achieve their learning goal
explain how the ATL skill(s) was/were applied to help achieve their product.

Objective C: Reflect

explain the impact of the project on themselves or their learning
evaluate the product based on the success criteria.
