Solo/Ensemble Auditions are usually in early/mid January on a Saturday
Pick a solo/ensemble in October (you can use any of the solo/ensemble books in the music library or online free arrangements). Ensure that your piece fits the festival requirements (check with the band director).
Make sure that your solo has a piano accompaniment that compliments it. The piano accompaniment can be played live (you must find your own piano player) or played electronically through your SmartMusic program (use a speaker).
You will attend the audition site, check in with the school’s hosts (get your score sheet), and find the warm-up room. You can find your band director and get your music scorebook.
At your audition time, find your instrument’s audition room and greet the host outside.
You will enter the audition room and greet the judge (give them your music score and your score sheet).
Play your solo/ensemble on your own time with your piano accompaniment.
Wait for judge comments and leave room (the judge will keep your score sheet).
You will receive your score from your band director.
