Real Appeal is a free digital weight management program available to eligible Blue Cross Blue Shield members. The 52-week program features weekly 30-minute online group coaching sessions led by trained Transformation Coaches and is based on the CDC's diabetes prevention curriculum. Participants receive a Success Kit after their first session containing a body weight scale, food scale, portion plate, and access to on-demand fitness content.
For BCBS Texas HealthSelect plans, the program is available to employees, retirees, and dependents age 18 or older with a BMI of 23 or higher (excluding Medicare-primary participants). The voluntary program focuses on sustainable lifestyle changes across nutrition, fitness, sleep, and stress management. Since 2015, over 1 million participants have collectively lost more than 3 million pounds, and studies show participants experienced 12% lower medical costs compared to non-participants.

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) is the state's only statewide, customer-owned health insurer and the largest provider of health benefits in Texas, serving more than 10.4 million members across all 254 counties. Founded in 1929 when Dallas businessman Justin Ford Kimball created the nation's first hospital pre-payment plan—the "Baylor Plan"—allowing teachers to prepay 50 cents monthly for hospital care, BCBSTX pioneered the very concept of health insurance. Today, BCBSTX operates as a division of Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC), a mutual legal reserve company headquartered in Chicago. For over 95 years, the company has provided comprehensive, affordable health plans through employer group coverage, individual and family market plans, and Medicare and Medicaid programs. BCBSTX has a history of healthcare innovation, including offering the world's first cancer coverage in 1954 and becoming the first in the nation to administer Medicaid on an underwritten basis in 1967.
