The life and ethos of the academy centres around five core values of Generosity, Respect, Justice, Forgiveness and Truth and part of our vision is to develop open mindedness and to encourage spiritual development. The Academy also strives to create a learning environment, curriculum, experiences and relationships in which the innate spirituality of all human beings can find expression, be nourished and developed.
Our Daily Reflections, Collective Worship and assemblies aim to provide a small window of time in our busy school day where we can stop and reflect together on the academy’s core values and some of the issues that help us grow as human beings. It should provide an opportunity to develop our innate spirituality.
As a Church of England academy we believe that it is important for students to be given time each day to reflect and to pray if they want to. Tutors provide students with time during tutor time for this reflection using the daily reflection material to support this time.
At the beginning of each week a Google Slides document is sent to each tutor with the Thought for the Week on the first slide, a range of activities that can be done in tutor time on the second slide and a prayer on the third slide. Additionally a copy of the poster will be sent to each tutor group to be displayed on the tutor notice board, so students as aware of the thought all week.
Each student will be given a Reflections Booklet to record their thoughts and ideas in. This is personal for each student. In the back of the booklet are 5 activities one for each of our core values.
Many students enjoy leading and participating in the reflection time. They are encouraged to create their own reflection activities to share with the tutor group or during assemblies.
Harvest, Christmas and Easter
We will mark these three major Christian festivals with special assemblies or church services. We also mark and acknowledge festivals from other religions throughout the year. This is also included in reflection materials.
Collective Worship Leaders
Each tutor group should nominate at least one collective worship leader to help lead and develop reflection time in your tutor group. They will also help to co-ordinate the production of a reflection poster during the year and may be asked to help with assemblies and other acts of collective worship such as the services in church.
