Your child will not have regular homework assignments. It is important that you give your child opportunities to read and to be read to on a nightly basis. Not only is reading together an opportunity to bond with your child and build your relationship, but it is also a time when your child is learning about concepts of print and language.
Children who are read to regularly have a higher vocabulary and a greater understanding of the world around them. They also tend to learn to read faster.
In September, a library book will start coming home. I will also be sending home paper books that align with our phonics skills.
Students are required to read a minimum of 100 books over the school year. Of course, a lofty goal of 1000 books would be amazing!
