One of the Chiefs named/called Blue Jacket
Shawnee men used many of the same tools in war as they did to hunt game. These included: bows and arrows, stone tomahawks, and spears. Clothing was made from animal skins and some woven fabrics. Women wore dresses with leggings and men went shirtless most of the time and wore breechcloths and leggings. When the weather was cold, men and women wore coats called ponchos. Chiefs had a beaded headband with a feather. Both men and women had long hair, however men cut their hair into a Mohawk style during war. Some men had tattoos.
The Shawnee tribe created beautiful beadwork, pottery, and wood carvings. They also made wampum out of white and purple shell beads. Shawnee children enjoyed dolls, toys and games. The tribe told stories. Their most famous was about a Shawnee who married the sky’s daughter.
