Homeless Resources
Homeless Support Section: Assisting Unhoused Individuals
The McKinney-Vento Education for Homeless Children & Youth Act ensures protections for unhoused/homeless students, including enrollment rights (see below: Rights for Students Who Are Unhoused). TRUSD is committed to supporting students experiencing homelessness to guarantee equal access to educational opportunities.
Definition of Students who are Unhoused / Homeless:
Students without fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence are defined as unhoused/homeless. This includes living in emergency shelters, transitional housing programs, unconventional sleeping spaces (cars, parks, etc.), motels/hotels due to inadequate accommodations, or temporarily staying with others due to housing loss or financial issues. This also encompasses unaccompanied youth, runaways, abandoned hospital children, and migratory children.
