The drama project was one of the most challenging but valuable experiences I have had during this course. We had to work as a group to develop and perform a drama based on an existing story. After looking at different fairy tales and plays, we decided to use Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream as the inspiration for our production. We then adapted the idea into our own story with a high-stakes fashion company and runway setting.
The project involved much more than acting. We had to develop the storyline and script, cast characters, organise production crews, prepare costumes and props, plan the stage, and coordinate sound, lighting and multimedia. The assessment also focused on story and language, characterisation and delivery, teamwork, and technical creativity.
My main role was Assistant Director, although my responsibilities became more like a Co-Director as the project progressed. I helped organise meetings, casting and rehearsals, communicated with different crews, supported actors, monitored stage movements and transitions, and helped solve technical and production problems. I also had a small role as a background character/intern, so I had to balance my responsibilities behind the scenes with performing on stage.
